On August 11, 2009, John Mackey, CEO of Whole Foods Market, published a column expressing his opposition to the Administration's health care proposal:

Rather than increase government spending and control, we need to address the root causes of poor health. This begins with the realization that every American adult is responsible for his or her own health...

Health-care reform is very important. Whatever reforms are enacted it is essential that they be financially responsible, and that we have the freedom to choose doctors and the health-care services that best suit our own unique set of lifestyle choices. We are all responsible for our own lives and our own health. We should take that responsibility very seriously and use our freedom to make wise lifestyle choices that will protect our health. Doing so will enrich our lives and will help create a vibrant and sustainable American society.

In response, the organized left, most notably SEIU, is calling for Mackey's head, and boycotting Whole Foods until their demands are met:

Labor unions are joining a boycott aimed at Whole Foods Market, protesting CEO John Mackey’s criticism of President Barack Obama’s health care plan...

The United Food and Commercial Workers Union and CtW Investment Group, an arm of several unions including the Service Employees International Union, are part of the boycott effort and say Mackey should be ousted as CEO of the grocery chain.

Clearly, dissent from Administration policy is not to be tolerated.

They are making an example of John Mackey, as a message to any and all who may dissent from the Administration's goals.

If they kill Whole Foods business and take down John Mackey, who would be willing to speak up again?  Better to keep your mouth shut and avoid trouble.

So, are we going to let them get away with this, or are we going to COUNTER their boycott with a campaign of our own?

As far as I'm concerned, John Mackey stood up and spoke out for us, and we need to stand up and speak out for him.

Can't we do more than just shop at their stores?

Does WHOLE FOODS have a website. I will purchase all I can from them and I will get the thousand of friends and email partners to do the same. SEIU and the radical leftist boycott don't have a prayer!!! When Whole Foods starts increasing sales 50 fold maybe they'll get the message!

Chronic disease awareness, prevention, and insurance cost containment is my husband's passion and profession. He has said all along that people need to take responsibility for their personal health- it's such a "no-brainer". It's so refreshing to see John Mackey take such a bold stand on this issue.
